Is it fair if Umar Patek gains an early release?

The news about the possible early release of Umar Patek, the Bali bom maker has created a great distressed particularly amongst the victims’ families. What needed now is the signature of Indonesia’s Minister of Law and Human Rights for Umar Patek to get out of prison, after serving about 11 years of his 20-years jail term.


Prof Hikmahanto Juwana is a Professor of International law at Indonesia University. Prof Hikmahanto Juwana explains Sri Dean that sometimes justice and law they are not always synchronise. That in Umar Patek case the change in terrorism law and his reportedly good behaviour in prison can enable him to gain substantial reduction on his original sentence.
