Although the Northern Territory is not directly affected by bushfires, the Indonesian community in Darwin organises a fundraiser for its victims. Claiming to do so out of mutual concern, the organising committee says it is now time to show Australians that they care.

Although not directly affected by bushfires that have been spreading in Australia since October, the Indonesian community in Darwin, the Northern Territory does not stay silent. They are organising a fundraising event which will be aimed at Australians whom are the victims of the fire.

Dominic Joko Witono, one of the organising commitee, speaks to SBS Indonesian about the background and details of the event. The man who has lived in Australia for 10 years says that this measure is taken because of the mutual concern.

"Because we feel we have often been helped by the Australian community, whether from a tsunami... a volcano eruption... so now is the time to help Australians to show that we care about the people of Australia," says Dominic.
