Konta-Sai: Kartika Pratiwi’s beautiful animation tells a story of courage in the face of sexual violence

The short film Konta-Sai recently won the judges’ award not only for the best animated film at the ReelOzInd 2021 film festival but also the award for best film. Yet the competition this year was very strong. A number of elements made Konta-Sai so powerful and impressive.


Kartika Pratwi is the director of film Konta-Sai and the communications co-ordinator for AJAR (Asia Justice and Rights) an organisation that focuses on human rights abuses that have happened in the past.  She explains to Sri Dean the process of making the film and the important role played by the narrator.
