In the holiday period this time, many people across Australia are seeking support services for the first time due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

As the cost-of-living crisis drags on, more than 3.7 million households across Australia are estimated to be experiencing food insecurity.

This figure, set out in the 2023 Hunger Report published by Foodbank, represents an increase of 10 per cent compared to 2022 and is a sign that rising prices for goods are pushing families into further instability.

Many Australians are seeking help from community support services for the first time, including those with full-time jobs and mortgages.

Charities such as OzHarvest try to help by distributing donated food that is usually wasted.
