What if the outpouring became the inspiration for a work of poetry and could be accepted internationally? This is the story of writer and poet, Lizzie Chan.
The COVID pandemic was not expected to be a precious period for Indonesian writer and poet Lizzie Chan, as she spent a lot of time honing her art in poetry. It was during that time that she also virtually participated in many international open mics, including in Chicago and Taiwan.
Lizzie said that her pent-up outpouring of heart was much the inspiration for her works. Poetry has become part of her coping mechanism in dealing with the real world.

When her first piece of poetry won the Grand Poetry Slam in the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival 2023, Lizzie admitted it was a validation for her as an artist that her work was positively appreciated by the public.
“Poetry can be more alive and the format can be even more different if it is in spoken words format, not written poetry,” Lizzie Chan told SBS Indonesian.
