Ella S. Prihatini, a political science and international relations researcher and PhD student at the University of Western Australia responds to some of the surprising outcomes in the election of regional heads held on 27 June and considers ways of increasing the number of women parliamentarians in future.


What were some of the surprising results in the recent elections of regional heads?  Why was the election of Khofifah such an important milestone? Does government affirmative action of 30% quota for women’s candidacy work?  Ella S. Prihatini explains some positive changes in voting culture and some challenges that remain.
