East Kalimantan is one of the mining-rich provinces in Indonesia. Unfortunately, since the New Order era, mining company operations in this area have had a negative impact on the environment and community.
One of them was experienced by residents of Santan, Kutai Kartanegara. For 23 years, they received the impact of the operations of a coal mining company there.
Taufik Iskandar, Head of Tani Muda Santan, leads his friends in the organization to defend the rights of the community, especially preventing mining companies from operating massively without boundaries.
In this interview, Taufik will tell about the efforts of young people there, against mining companies and at the same time trying to preserve nature.
