NAPLAN testing has begun, this year shifting online to find new ways of evaluating students' literacy and numeracy skills.
NAPLAN is a series of nationally standardized tests in which students in Grades 3, 5, 7, and 9 are assessed on their literacy and numeracy abilities.
Yet some remain cynical about what the testing regime is actually achieving.
Starting next year, NAPLAN will be conducted at the beginning of the year - in March rather than May - which will allow teachers and schools to access results at the start of the school year.
Testing is now done online.
