New figures show impact of COVID-19 on employment

New figures released have revealed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics have revealed the scale of job losses across industries due to COVID-19.


Since March 14 - the number of jobs declined by 7.5 per cent.

Around 200,000 of those were lost during the week to April 18.   Wages have also fallen by 8 per cent in just a month.

One of the industries hardest hit is events.

The accommodation and food sectors were the worst hit – with one in every three workers losing their jobs between March and April.

 

Workers providing essential services such as electricity, gas, water and waste were the least impacted - with just 0.2% of jobs lost.
