Roots and Routes became the theme of Nongkrong Festival 2025. Its main goal is to celebrate Australian-Indonesian culture by creating a space for the Indonesian diaspora to connect, collaborate and create.

Diletta Legowo is the artistic director of the Nongkrong Festival. She told SBS Indonesia how the festival was structured and the thinking behind the festival theme, Roots & Routes.

Given the historic meeting between the First Nations peoples of Arnhem Land, particularly the Johnu tribe and the Makassar (Marege) people, the festival also involved Aboriginal artists.

This is to further strengthen the kinship that has been established several hundred years ago.
