The Indonesian Street Food Festival returned to Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne on 28 and 29 March 2026, organised by the Indonesian Community Association of Victoria (ICAV). The annual event featured a variety of Indonesian favourites––including ketoprak, pempek, lontong, bakso cuanki.
Beyond the food, the festival also featured live music from Indonesian bands based in Melbourne. Among them was Contempo, who performed traditional Indonesian regional songs reimagined with jazz arrangements, with band members dressed in batik and tenun.
Listen to the conversation of SBS Indonesian with Contempo's singer, Anna Balani, about her experience performing at the festival, her efforts to introduce Indonesian regional music to Australian audiences, and the importance of preserving and passing on Indonesian culture for the diaspora in Melbourne. Some attendees also shared what their favourites are from the event.
