Australia is facing a backlog of 400,000 operations as hospitals look to restart elective surgery after the COVID-19 shutdown.


About 28.4 million operations worldwide are projected to be cancelled or postponed this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

That's according to new research published in the British Journal of Surgery.

In Australia, more than 400,000 procedures have been cancelled during lockdown.
