Australian government is reviewing the franchise code

The Australian government has announced a review of the regulatory framework that sustains Australia's franchise economy.


Franchising is a business system in which the franchisor, has developed a business model and sells the right to use that model to others to expand the footprint of that business. The

Franchise Council of Australia says there are more than 1,200 franchisees and more than 94,000 franchise outlets employing 565,000 people in the country.

There are franchises that operate in almost every type of business category, with varying degrees of complexity and market share.

The International Trade Administration suggests Australia has more franchised outlets per capita than any other country except New Zealand.
