Government announces increase in paid parental leave

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced the government is expanding paid parental leave from 18 to 26 weeks. He said it would allow families greater flexibility during formative times for their children.


The paid leave allowance for parents will be raised to 26 weeks and the in policy will begin to be phased in from 2024 to 2026.

Households with two parents will be able to decide how to split leave, while single parents will be entitled to a full six months.
