Research shows Islamophobia is declining but emerging worrying new trend

COVID lockdowns around Australia may have contributed to a decline in reporting of Islamophobic incidents across the country. But a new report highlighting the decline was likely due to a fall in the number of people reporting that offence.


In line with previous reports, the most commonly reported harassment hotspots remain in shopping malls, construction sites, and roads. The

most common form of harassment is verbal bullying.

However, the report's authors said there was less intervention from bystanders who witnessed the incident.
