Health professionals are reporting a drop in the number of visits to GPs and specialists during the pandemic. They say people must keep their health in check now, to avoid bigger problems later.

Cancer Australia CEO Professor Dorothy Keefe says coronavirus pandemic is deterring people from attending their usual checkups in fear of catching the virus, or overloading the health system.

Professor Keefe says doctors are concerned that if people skip or delay their appointments, potential cancers may be missed, or diagnosed at a later stage.

People in Australia must stay at least 1.5 metres away from others. Check your state’s restrictions on gathering limits.

Testing for coronavirus is now widely available across Australia. If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, arrange a test by calling your doctor or contact the Coronavirus Health Information Hotline on 1800 020 080.
