Warning over 'sophisticated fraud tactics' against International students in Australia

International students are bombarded by scams asking for money and personal information. Authorities say the scam uses increasingly sophisticated techniques to impersonate authorities.


The National Anti-Fraud Centre says international students — especially Chinese students — are increasingly being targeted with a series of alarming tactics to threaten, intimidate and steal from them.

Since the start of this year, there have been more than 1,200 reports of fraud, with an estimated loss of $8.7 million at the hands of fraudsters.
