Patients with chronic illnesses will soon be able to buy a supply of prescription drugs for 60 days, at a cost of only a month. These are major changes to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) that will be included in next month's budget.
The government estimates about 6 million people will receive a reduction in medical expenses by half.
That's a saving of $1.6 billion over the next emp at year that the government says will be reinvested into community pharmacies. A
typical patient can save $180 a year per drug.
Meanwhile concession cardholders will save nearly $44.
