Preserving the MotherLanguage, whose responsibility is it?

2024 International Mother Language Day – Blacktown City Council.

Every February 21 is celebrated as international Mother Language Day. This year's theme is, "Multilingual Education - a pillar of intergenerational learning".


In an interview with SBS Indonesian, Prof Rahma Sugihartini from Airlangga University, Dr Anita Dewi from Charles Sturt University and Dr Paul Thomas from Deakin University believe that multilingual education facilitates inclusive education and preserves the Mother Language. Unfortunately, the diversity of this mother tongue is increasingly under threat.
