Privacy advocates are concerned about the risk of surveillance technology that could potentially be misused by law enforcement agencies while the health authorities are trying to manage protests that were followed by thousands of people during the pandemic.


The police department is being criticized and technology giants Amazon and Microsoft have banned police use of facial recognition software.

This software is used to help federal law enforcement identify suspects but is not accurate in terms of racial recognition.
