SELARAS service from Indonesian immigration office facilitates passport processing for elderly and sick Indonesian citizens in the Greater Sydney area.
The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Sydney has introduced an innovative immigration service called SELARAS (Sambangi Lansia dan Orang Sakit—Visiting the Elderly and the Sick), aimed at assisting Indonesian citizens in New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.
SBS Indonesian spoke with Mr Fachrian, an Immigration Technical Staff at KJRI Sydney, regarding this service.
SELARAS is specifically designed for the elderly (aged over 60) and those who are ill, eliminating the need for them to visit the Consulate General's office in person.
Through this program, immigration officers visit the applicant's location—whether it is at home, a hospital or another care facility—to collect biometric data for the passport renewal process.
The application procedure for the SELARAS service is quite convenient and prioritises the applicant's comfort.
Required documents include:
- old passport
- valid Australian visa
- birth certificate or national ID card (KTP)
- proof of residential address in Australia, and
- completed form.
Passports issued through mission offices overseas have a validity period of five years. Applicants holding damaged passports will be subject to a fine in accordance with Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) regulations, whereas for lost passports, applicants must submit an official loss report letter or reference number from the Australian Police.
To access this service, the public can contact the Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney via the hotline at 0434-5444-78, by emailing imigrasi.sydney@kemlu.go.id with the subject line "Layanan SELARAS" or via a direct message on the Instagram account @indonesiainsydney.
Once the requirements have been verified and a visit was scheduled, it will take approximately three working days for the new passport to be processed.
The completed passport will be sent directly to the applicant's address via a tracked postal service requiring a signature upon delivery to ensure the document's security.
