The Labor government has promised to scrap the compulsory cashless debit card, after a scathing new report found the previous government failed to provide evidence that the program was effective.


Some welfare groups are already welcoming the commitment, saying the scheme targeted indigenous communities, and locked many out of being able to purchase basic items.
