Spring is here, Gamelan DanAnda is ready to celebrate - let’s dance!

John Cheong-Holdaway is a creative producer, musician, and economist who recently received an Award from the Indonesian Consul General Republic of Indonesia in Melbourne on the 17 Aug 2025. This award is a part of and given at the 80th Indonesian Independence Day celebration. What did John do to earn this Award?


As a musician and creative producer, John Cheong-Holdaway has been promoting Indonesian traditional music through Gamelan DanAnda. He fostered cross-cultural understanding and appreciation of Indonesian heritage in Australia.

To SBS Indonesian John talked about how he and Gamelan DanAnda so far manage to showcase Balinese traditional music and dance to the wider community in Melbourne particularly and Victoria in general. With the support of the Indonesian and Australian governments, Gamelan DanAnda is able to invite a Balinese musician and a dancer for its impending Spring Concert 2025.

Gamelan DanAnda’s Spring Concert this year will be held at Collingwood Town Hall in Melbourne on the 14 Sep 2025. It will feature the new music and dance creation of the two guest stars as well as the performance of Yarra Irama Dang Ndut group. From Bali
