Japan has failed in its bid to overturn a 32-year ban on commercial whaling at the annual International Whaling Commission (IWC) meeting in Brazil.
It's being called a win for those that have campaigned for whales, including the Australian government.
But some marine conservationists warn this won't be the end of a push for a resumption of the practice.
