The return of ceramics from the Tek Sing Ship that sunk in 1822 from Australia to Indonesia

On the 77th Celebration of Indonesian Independence, 17th of August 2022 at the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, Australia will handover some historical objects believed to be from the Tek Sing Ship which went down in the Bangka Belitung waters in 1822. The Minister of Arts, the Hon Anthony Burke, will hand-over the 6 samples of the 333 ceramics to the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Australia, His Excellency Dr Siswo Pramono.

Previously, in 2018 the Australian Government returned four culturally significant tribal skulls to the Indonesian Government. The valuable artefacts were handed over by Australian Minister for the Arts, to the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Australia, His Excellency Mr Yohanes Kristiarto Soeryo Legowo, at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia.
