Inspiration from Drg.Sarah Gadrie as a Muslim dentist, keeping your smile healthy and fasting comfortably without problems during the blessed month

The month of Ramadan is a special time for Muslims to observe fasting. However, changes in eating patterns and daily habits during fasting can affect oral and dental health. Therefore, the role of dentists becomes very important in educating the public on how to maintain oral hygiene and health.

Drg.Sarah Gadrie explains that during fasting, saliva production tends to decrease, causing the mouth to become drier. This condition can lead to bad breath and increase the risk of plaque buildup and cavities. Therefore, people are encouraged to maintain oral hygiene by brushing their teeth at least twice a day, especially after suhoor (pre dawn meal) and before going to bed.

In addition, the use of dental floss and mouthwash can help clean food debris that is difficult to reach with a toothbrush. Dentists also emphasise the importance of maintaining a healthy diet during suhoor and iftar (breaking the fast), by reducing the consumption of sugary and sticky foods that can damage teeth.

Another important point of education is that brushing teeth while fasting does not invalidate the fast, as long as no water or toothpaste is swallowed. This is essential to correct common misconceptions still found in society.

Through proper education, dentists hope that people can observe fasting comfortably without neglecting their oral and dental health. By maintaining oral hygiene, a healthy smile can be preserved throughout this blessed month.
