In a joint statement on Friday afternoon the Treasury and Tax Office revealed errors in reporting the amount of Jobkeeper support payments during the corona virus pandemic and had revised them down from 6.5 million to 3.5 million

Nearly 1000 businesses make mistakes when reporting the estimated number of employees who are eligible to receive JobKeeper assistance.

That error meant the estimated cost of the original scheme was $ 130 billion to around $ 70 billion.

The most common mistake is reporting the amount of assistance expected to be received by the company rather than the number of eligible employees.
