The two major parties are at odds over Australia's policy towards China

The Labor Party accused the Coalition Party's approach of reinforcing the prospect of war on Taiwan for political purposes and that it was a "very dangerous electoral tactic". But the Coalition returned fire, labeling the opposition's policies weak in the face of threats from China.


Opposition concerns center around Defense Secretary Peter Dutton's recent statement that it was "inconceivable" for Australia not to join the United States in the war to defend Taiwan against China.
On the other hand, Minister Dutton accused the opposition Labor Party of maintaining a weak national security and defense policy.
