People don’t realise how dangerous environmental journalism can be. Phil Jacobson is the contributing editor for Mongabay, an on-line environmental journal. He recently received the Oktovianus Pogau Award for Courage in Journalism. What is his story?

Working collaboratively with local journalists, Phil Jacobson investigates and reports on environmental issues in Indonesia.  These including corrupt practices in dispossessing native land owners to acquire land for palm-oil plantations.  The story he tells about one such corrupt payment for service is one of the examples.
