The Indonesian government has formed a travel bubble in the Batam area and the main tourist destination of Bintan, which has a number of resorts, including it.

Although the ease of traveling is agreed upon, in general it has not been able to have a significant impact on the local tourism sector. With only two resorts entering the travel bubble scheme, other tourism actors still have to struggle to find a market, relying on domestic tourists.

The head of the Tanjung Pinang-Bintan travel industry association (ASITA), Sapril Sembiring shared his story about how this travel bubble and its impact on the tourism sector in the region.

Sapril said, among other things, that at this time, the biggest influence on tourist visits is the extent to which tourists have the courage to go on vacation. Even though local tourism actors have met all the requirements for safe travel for COVID-19, if tourists don't want to travel yet, any kind of promotion will still be difficult to bring them in.
