The diversity of races in Indonesia produces not only different traditions but also traditional clothing or customes typical of each region. Ulos is a distinctive traditional clothing of Batak tribe, one of the important traditional asset that Indonesia possesses.


Dewi Sartika Bukit is a member of the Kultura Collectiva from Jogya who is also a photographer. After joining the Creative Economy Agency (BEKRAF) and teaching at National Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKN), Dewi became more and more interested in Batak ulos from North Sumatra. Especially about the role of the female weavers, whose stories have received little attention.
