Understanding Harmony Week and creating an inclusive society

The theme of Harmony Week 2025 is that “we all have a role to play!” So, what can we do to create a cohesive society?


Harmony Week 2025, which runs from March 17 to 23, is marked by a number of community events across Australia. However, Dr Salut Muhidin, a senior lecturer and demographer in the Department of Business at Macquarie University, reminds us that historically Harmony Day is a commemoration of the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which aims to celebrate Australia’s multiculturalism and foster inclusivity, respect and belonging for all.  The question is how far have we gone?
