A record crowd of over 100,000 fans packed Melbourne Park on Sunday, the first day of the main draw of the 2026 Australian Open. Fellow seeds Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka had advanced to the second round, as had Australian world number one Talia Gibson.


However, Venus Williams the 45-year-old legendary star was defeated by Serbian Olga Danilovic.
