It has been forecast that by around 2050, Australians aged 65 years and older will make up about a quarter of our population.


However, a new national survey commissioned by an SBS series on discrimination has found that age-based discrimination is rife in Australian society, with more than half of survey respondents indicating acts of ageism are 'common.?  Why does this stereotyping persist?
