In February, the Myanmar military staged a coup to overthrow the Myanmar government that had been elected at the end of 2020. There have been demonstrations and bloodshed. On 06 April ASEAN nations announced they would hold a summit on the issue in Jakarta. No date was confirmed.
Dr Muhammad Rum is a lecturer in International Relations from Gajah Mada University. He explains the background to the coup and assesses possible regional and international responses.
