What is 'Green Hydrogen'?

The Federal Government is inching toward an agreement on net zero, but as the final deal is hammered out, other influential voices are filling the space.


The idea of hydrogen as an energy carrier isn't new - it's been around for decades as technology advances and so does the urgency of climate change.

The most abundant element in the universe is Hydrogen, but it doesn't occur naturally by itself - it most often bonds with oxygen to make water. So it takes energy to extract it and there are different ways to do it.
The zero carbon option is "green hydrogen" which uses renewable energy such as solar and wind. But there is also "brown hydrogen" when coal is burned to create energy that causes carbon emissions.
