The race for the Premier, the highest post in the New South Wales Liberal Government vacated by Gladys Berejiklian, has begun. Four candidates are believed to be running for the top job, which will be discussed at a party meeting next Tuesday to name a successor.
As the New South Wales Liberal Party is reeling from the dramatic resignation of Gladys Berejiklian, there seems to be no shortage of colleagues ready to raise their hands to replace her.
Planning Minister Rob Stokes was the first to officially declare publicly that he has what it takes to become the state's 46th prime minister.
Treasurer Dominic Perrottet is widely considered the front-runner to succeed him but he is also seen as a hardline party with more moderate Liberals wanting to ensure there is a viable alternative to the leadership.
Employment Minister Stuart Ayres and Transport Minister Andrew Constance were also named as candidates.
