World-renown author Elena Ferrante will have a column in the weekend edition of The Guardian. The British newspaper announced it on Thursday, saying it will be about a range of topics including childhood, ageing and gender. Her debut article will be on the subject of first love.
The enthusiastic reaction to the news of the author’s fans didn’t take long to arrive.
The announcement comes a little over a year after the alleged unmasking of Elena Ferrante’s true identity, which she has always protected.
According to a 2016 article by Il Sole 24 ore, titled "Ecco la vera identità di Elena Ferrante", the author of the "Neapolitan Novels" series is Anita Raja, translator from German and wife of Italian writer Domenico Starnone. This alleged "unmasking" was not well received at the time, creating a backlash against the journalist responsible for the investigation.
The column will be translated by Ann Goldstein, who also translated Ferrante’s books into English. The official debut is scheduled for Saturday 20.
