Long-time Pellegrini's owner and restaurateur Sisto Malaspina was a well-known and charismatic figure. The cruel way in which he died has further compounded the sorrow and void his demise has left in many.
The Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced the State Funeral for the only victim of the Bourke street attack will take place next Tuesday 20 November from 10:30am at St Patrick's Cathedral. In his words, it will offer the many mourners a chance "to celebrate this remarkable Victorian, who brought love, life, colour and flavour to our city."
Meanwhile, Pellegrini's reopened yesterday morning, offering free long blacks to the many customers and friends who went to pay their respects and show their support for the staff members and Malaspina's family.
Over the last few days many had left bunches of flowers in front of the iconic café. The Malaspina's family have thanked the public for their support but have now encouraged people to donate directly to the Salvation Army in-lieu of floral tributes.
Further information about the state funeral will be divulged in the coming days.
