Thousands of migrants have reached Northern Italy, in the hope of crossing the borders with France, from the Italian town of Ventimiglia. Some have been trying to reach Switzerland travelling through Como, and are now camping out in parks in Como, close to the Italian-Swiss border, only a few Km away from US actor George Clooney and his British wife Amal’s lakeside house.

In Como, about 500 migrants are near the train station of San Giovanni: they have tried to reach Germany by train but have been sent back from the Swiss authorities in Chiasso.
“The ones who want to stay here (in Italy) are telling stories that are not promising, so most of the people want to go somewhere else” Mogahid Sabeel
Our broadcaster Carlo Oreglia went to San Giovanni station to meet some of the migrants: he has found many young men and some pregnant women, mainly coming from the Horn of Africa. Here’s his interview with Mogahid Sabeel, from Sudan.
