Matthew Dellavedova is arguably Australia's greatest basketball player. Fellow Matthew Dellavedova is a tennis rising star. The second cousin of the Milwaukee Bucks guard by the same name, won last month's under 16 national championship and entered the Australian Open junior draw. He progressed to the second round after defeating Dutchman Len Schouten in three sets (6-3 3-6 6-2), then he admitted the pair have never met.
"It's annoying typing my name in Google and all that pops up is him"
Delly , the 16-year old from Melbourne's suburb of Wonga Park, admitted he doesn't follow basket and confessed that despite his Italian heritage he preferes a good barbie. He first started playing tennis because of his dad, Peter, who happen to be not only a coach but also the cousin of Matthew Dellavedova (the basket players)'s father.
"I like the fight, the competition. Going out there, it’s just two guys — a bit like boxing — where you’re one-on-one and completely by yourself"
Dellavedova, whose trademark shot is a sublime single-handed backhand, loves Federer's style and Nadal's "animalistic spirit". He believes 2014 Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka proves that one can be a top 10 player even without a two-hands backhand.
