Ten Christmas markets not to be missed in Melbourne

A guide to Christmas shopping away from the big chains, an opportunity to explore new suburbs, food from around the world, listen to live music and have fun.

Christmas is upon us and it is time to find gifts for family and friends. Even if there isn't any snow in sight and it is not mulled wine season down under, this is the best time to explore Melbourne's markets. Which are in program in town? Here's a list of some of the most popular.

This is not a Christmas-themed market but it is a great place to shop and buy art and design objects. Every Wednesday from 5pm till 10pm.
110 Franklin Street, Melbourne 3000


Every Thursday from 5:30 pm till 10pm the Northcote Town Hall hosts a Christmas market, a regular one for the last ten years, with a range of stalls selling clothes, bags, toys, materials, plants and much more.

There are 60 stalls at this market held at the Brunswick Town Hall from 4pm till 9pm on Friday 9 and on Saturday from 10am till 4pm. It is the perfect place to find hand-made objects, candles, jewels, accessories and clothes.
233 Sydney Road, Brunswick 3056

A weekend dedicated to France, with gifts for kids and adults, but also music and good wine. It is held at the Alliance Française de Melbourne's Eildon Mansion in St Kilda.
An evening dedicated to food, music and gifts, rigorously ethical and sustainable, as the name of the event suggests, helf from 5pm till 10pm at the One Community Church in Blackburn. Free entry with gold coin donation.
184 Surrey Road, Blackburn 3130

One of the most famous night markets, held at the historical Bridges Reserve. Every Friday from 5.30pm till 10pm, it has been an unmissable markets for the last seven years, for music, shopping and good food.

Over 100 designer and independent artists come to Federation Square to sell their artworks: you will be able to find jewels, fashion, home wares, coffee, donuts and much more from 10am till 5pm.

This little market is held at the 1000 £ Bend in the CBD, and it features stalls from 52 dedicated makers and designers, working across the mediums of jewellery, ceramics, textiles, paper, wood and more. Open from 10am till 4pm.
361 Little Lonsdale Street, 3000 VIC

A historical market born in 1974, it has become a point of reference for Christmas shopping. On Sunday from 9am till 2pm, with 300 stalls.
448 Epsom Rd, Flemington 3031

A great market for last-minute Christmas shopping, it starts at 6am and goes till 9pm, offering music, kids activities, food stalls at the Queen Victoria Market.
