Travel alert to Northern Italy upgraded to Level Two

The Australian government has issued a level 2 travel warning for Northern Italy, extending the area affected by the alert, which until yesterday applied only to the regions of Lombardia and Veneto.

The alert was published on the website smartraveller.gov.au. 

The Level 2 warning means the government is inviting people to "pay close attention to their personal security and monitor the media for new risks".

A Level 3 warning asks people to reconsider their need to go to a certain country.
