Raising the age limit of the Working Holiday Visa? Let's take it easy: the announcement by Minister for Social Services Scott Morrison, who had mentioned in October that the government was considering the ideas, has perhaps raised too many hopes.

We are thinking about it – this is the gist of the message which has been published on the Department's website – but it is not a fait accompli.

Migration agent Emanuela Canini talked to us about this and other immigration related topics (interview in Italian).

Minister Morrison's announcement was picked up by several websites, pushing the Department to publish a message to clarify the issue:

Age of eligibility – Government announcement

The Government is considering options for expanding the upper age of eligibility from 30 to 35 years, including timeframes, legislative requirements and engagement with partner countries. Reciprocity of arrangements for Australian citizens remains a key feature of the programme. The current age of eligibility (18 to 30) will remain in place for the time being.
