Rosa Voto and Natasha and Renato Colangelo talk about their public art photography project, a celebration of the history of Moreland's multicultural and diverse community.

Moreland is a very multicultural area of Melbourne, including northern suburbs such as Brunswick, Pascoe Vale, Coburg. Many Italians live there, but locals come also from other countries, mainly Greece, Lebanon, India and Pakistan. Rosa Voto, Natasha and Renato Colangelo live in the area.

The Colangelo siblings were in fact raised in Moreland: their Italian-born parents owned for many years a shop on Sydney road. Now they are looking for people of diverse cultural backgrounds who settled there in the 50s, 60s and 70s who wish to have their portrait taken. All portraits, taken by Renato who is a photographer, will be displayed as a large mural on Sydney Rd, Brunswick.

The project is funded by Moreland City Council and is part of the global art project Inside Out (www.insideoutproject.net), initiated in 2011 by French artist JR. It is a global participatory art project inspired by JR's large format street pastings. Anyone can participate, anywhere in the world, making a statement about a cause or a message. Rosa, Natasha and Renato want to celebrate the migrant community that has built the Moreland of today.

For more information contact Natasha 0417573134, or write to natashacolangelo11@gmail.com. Renato is willing to go to people's houses to take their portraits.
