On September 15, 2001, Italian driver Alex Zanardi was the victim of a serious accident during a race in Germany. The former Formula 1 and Cart star almost bled to death as a result of his injuries and suffered the amputation of both legs.

However, he did not give up and soon returned to competitive activity, first driving cars and later riding a bicycle. In his paracycling career he has won dozens of medals at the Paralympics and the world championships.

We interviewed Alex Zanardi on the occasion of the Invictus Games, an annual sporting event that includes competitions in different sports disciplines between war veterans who have permanent disabilities.

Although the origin of the injuries of the former Italian driver and the athletes of the Invictus Games is very different, Zanardi is unanimously considered an inspiration for all the athletes who compete and put themselves to the test despite their disabilities.

We asked him first about his memories of Australia.
