Intercity 4 - Cook, the ghost town in the Outback

Cook

Source: Elio Loccisano

In 2003 the journalist Max Civili and the photographer Elio Loccisano traveled aboard the Indian Pacific, the train that, from Sydney to Perth, crosses all of central Australia. During the production of this series, which is available for the the first time to our online audience, Max and Elio met many Italians who live and work in the Outback and in the most remote areas of the country.

In this fourth episode, Max and Elio head to Cook, a ghost town in the South Australian desert that has ... two inhabitants. Until 1998, Cook was a bustling town, with hundreds of inhabitants, then the railway line was modernized and automated and no more maintenance personnel were needed. Meanwhile, on the train, we meet more Italians: Italina and Assunta, intent on playing briscola, Ilario Ierace, the manager of the train, and Uberto Maroni, the train driver.
