Intercity 5 - Kalgoorlie, Leonora, Perth and Fremantle

Cicerello, Fremantle

Source: Elio Loccisano

In 2003 journalist Max Civili and photographer Elio Loccisano travelled aboard the Indian Pacific, the train that runs from Sydney to Perth, crossing all of central Australia.

In this fifth episode, Max and Elio travel to the mining town of Kalgoorlie, famous for its gold and its... brothels. Then they visit Leonora, a tiny settlement in the desert, where they meet Italian-born Eraldo Omodei, who moved to Australia in 1928 from the alpine village of Tirano. Later they arrive in Perth and pay a visit to Fremantle, where they meet social worker Vittorio Petriconi, fisherman Jim Mendolia and his Sicilian-born mother, Rosa, the family that runs renowned fish and chip shop Cicerello and former Perth Glory defender, Simon Colosimo, minutes after his club's triumph over Sydney Olympic in the 2003 NSL Grand Final at Subiaco Oval.
