"From today on Italy says no to human trafficking and no to the migration business" declared Minister Matteo Salvini.

Italy has denied permission for a rescue ship to drop off 629 migrants after Malta refused to open its ports. Malta has ignored calls from Italy’s hardline interior minister to not “look the other way”.

The migrants were saved by SOS Mediterranee on Saturday and are stuck aboard the French NGO's ship Aquarius, which is currently between Malta and Sicily waiting for a secure port for her to dock.

In the mean time, Italy held local councils election in over 700 municipalities. We have asked Carlo Fusi some updates from Italy.
