Italy has a government

 Conte formally accepted the appointment as Italian Prime Minister and submitted his cabinet list to President Sergio Mattarella.

Italy has a new coalition government and Prime Minister after the populist coalition was able to reach an agreement with President Sergio Mattarella.


Italy's president, Sergio Mattarella, has chosen law professor Giuseppe Conte to be the premier of Italy's first populist government.

The president's office has announced Mr Conte has accepted the role and will be sworn in on Friday (afternoon Rome time) with Cabinet ministers.
